Strength Training 101


Do you want to add muscle? Are you looking to make your time in the gym more effective? Welcome to Strength Training 101!

Strength – the ability to produce force against an external object.

It does not happen just because you got sweaty and it won’t last if you are constantly overdosing yourself with soreness.

Efficient and lasting strength gains require the performance of certain exercises. And when done correctly, with the proper repetitions and frequency, these movements will transform you into a healthier and more functional person increasing your quality of life.

So, if you are ready to gain strength but not sure how to start, our Strength Training 101 class may be just what you need.

During these 6 classes you’ll be introduced to each of the four main barbel lifts: the Squat, Deadlift, Bench Press and Overhead Press. These lifts are the best strength exercises that utilize the most muscle mass across the most effective range of motion leading to overall improvements of strength and balance without wasting time.

With the instruction and feedback of a certified Starting Strength Coach, you’ll learn how to perform them correctly and how to implement them into an effective training program. The classes are capped at 6 students, ensuring each student receives individualized attention.

By the end of the course you’ll have learned the hallmarks of properly performed lifts, have practiced them under the guidance of a coach and the tools to put them into practice with your own training program.

The class meets twice a week for 90-120 minutes for 3 weeks. Attendance at all classes is strongly encouraged, but we’re flexible! If you have scheduling conflicts and you still want to make the class, email us for options.

Day 1: Fundamental barbell training concepts & Squat Intro
Day 2: Squat & Deadlift
Day 3: Squat & Bench
Day 4: Press & Deadlift
Day 5: Squat, Press, Deadlift (only 1 working set each)
Day 6: Bench, Programming, Gym Tour*, Q&A

COST & REGISTRATION:

The cost for the class is $300.
** The class needs a minimum of 3 people. If there are not enough attendees Atlanta Barbell will offer different coaching options or a full refund.

Strength Training 102


WHO: These supervised sessions are geared for those that can appropriately perform the 4 basic barbell lifts (squat, deadlift, bench press, overhead press) and enjoy training in a group environment with access to a coach’s supervision. Attendees must have completed Strength Training 101 (or be granted clearance to join from an Atlanta Barbell coach).

WHAT: The purpose of these sessions is to provide coaching support in a group setting. Structure:

  • The classroom will be open 30 minutes prior to and after the scheduled hour session.
  • The coach will be in the classroom for the 1-hour session, and their role is to supervise, provide feedback, and help with your programming inquiries.
  • This is not a guided session where the coach will instruct attendees as a group, everyone will work at their own pace.

It is strongly suggested that attendees complete one workout on their own during each week in addition to the Strength 102 sessions.

WHEN: The group meets twice a week over 3 weeks.
